New concrete keeps working for a month after the crew leaves. This is the schedule we leave you with, and the one winter rule that matters most: never use ice melt.

Driveways, winter, financing

Asphalt, ice melt and cure times

Stamped concrete, concrete driveways, broom-finish concrete, concrete sealing, floors and pads with garage floor coatings, steps, retaining walls and firepits, concrete overlays, stained concrete and commercial concrete, for patios, pool decks, walkways, driveways, garages and basements across Syracuse and Central New York.

No. Distinctive Stone & Concrete does not pour over old asphalt. The old surface comes out, the base is prepared, and the new driveway is reinforced with solid rebar at a 4000 PSI minimum so it holds up to plow blades, road salt and freeze-thaw.

A properly built concrete driveway can last 30 years or more when it is resealed on schedule. Reseal after the first winter, then about every three years depending on sun and traffic.

Stay off it for at least 24 hours, keep furniture off for 72 hours and keep vehicles off for 5 days. Concrete takes about 30 days to fully cure, and some blotchy discoloration is normal at first.

Never use ice melt. If you have to use something, use calcium chloride; sand is better for traction. Clear snow with a plastic shovel, never a metal one.
